Interferometry

General Information on Interferometry

Laser Interferometers measure distance with extreme accuracy. 1nm is possible.
This resolution and accuracy makes Laser Interferometers effectively the best way to measure distances accurately (< 0,1mm) in most machine engineering applications.

Thanks to the extreme accuracy in distance measurements, together with one or two optical accessories Interferometers can also be used to measure other things apart from distance. For example:

  • Straightness Measurement
  • Combined straightness and displacement measurement
  • Straightness measurement via Auto collimation.
  • Flatness via auto collimation.
  • Vibration.

The above listed tasks can be completed easier and quicker with other methods and instruments. However, when measuring distances the Interferometer is the absolute Nr 1.

µLine Laser

µLine, the precise Laser Interferometer for machine measurements

The precise alignment and calibration of machines is an important part of Quality Management. Especially in the tool machinery market precision down to a µm is required. The new µLine system is an easy to handle yet very precise system for the measurements of straightness and parallelism.

Not only does it provide extremenly precise length / distance measurement but also straightness measurements in X and Y. The first stage interferometer prism is kept out of the laser housing thus avoiding thermal influences and offering maximum flexibility in the setup.

This is often critical in production line applications because it minimizes the degree of machine disassembly required. Measuring points can be performed manually, "semi automatic or completely automatically. The software support is very comprehensive. Apart from Vibration measurement it also supports ISO and IEEE machine compensation procedures. You can even use it to generate G-Codes for machine control.

µLine was developed for the industrial rather than the laboratory environment. It’s a two laser frequency interferometer with an integrated PSD for laser position detection.

µLine has a very extensive “weather station”; environmental influences on the measurement are kept down to a minimum through comprehensive temperature and pressure compensation.

The µLine offers a variety of features which differ from our competitors. Have a look at the advantages.

µLine:

  • Wireless operation of the sensors (no tangling cables )
  • PC Connection over bluetooth
  • Measurement of straightness is possible with the basic set! (3D measurement)
  • Two frequency "Zeemen" laser
  • Automatic generation of G-Codes and compensation tables!
  • Easy electronic beam alignment!
  • Easy to learn software
  • Small and lightweight system complete with case
