The straightness of the movement is measured by measuring the position of the reference beam and the position of the measuring beam returning to the laser head. 3D measurements offer unique possibility of measurements of straightness in two dimension within one measurement. This significantly shortens the measurement time.

With angular optics, with a Wollastone prism and with the 3D method patented by Lasertex.
The commonly used Wollastone prism optics are expensive and very difficult to adjust, although they give the most accurate results. Operation of the system with the Wollastone prism optics requires highly skilled personnel. The optics for the Wollastone prism and the angular method are supplied optionally.

The method of straightness measurement does not require any additional optics – the standard linear set is used.

The angular measurements performed by the laser interferometer system are used for straightness, surface flatness and angular positioning of rotary tables. Straightness measurements can be done in three mutually perpendicular axes X, Y, Z.

Here, a difference in the distance between the upper and the lower reflector is measured. By knowing the difference, an angle can be determined which can be transformed into a height.

By knowing the measurement-length it is possible to calculate a difference in the height. By adding all the height-differences you are able to express straightness.

The values can be measured in 痠/m. By knowing the angle and the distance you are able to calculate a difference in the height.





Straightness measurement with a Wollaston prisma

InterferometerBy using the Wollaston prism for the straightness measurement you achieve very high accuracy. The setup of the equipment takes some time and is not easy. So often, people use another kind of measurement such as the ProLine solution.

The principle consists of a semi-transparent mirror, a beam splitter and the Wollaston optic.
Every movement of the Wollaston optic towards left or right causes a change in the length of the two beams. This causes a interference between the beams that can be measured.
